What a painful year. As we all know, 2016 was a horrible year on all points. But inevitably, this nauseous climate, this social disaster, this slow and painful degradation, fueled the discourse of punk, hardcore, metal, and subgenres of each... And this gave a year rich in discoveries, In emotions, in chills, in anger, in catharsis, in willingness to move forward and take things in hand, particularly in terms of feminist positions and the support of minorities. A year in which it will have been enriching, necessary, to listen to these bands. To find the strength to face and overthrow this world that reserves us darker days than ever, to escape and laugh too. 2017 is likely to be even worse than 2016, we must prepare for it. These records will and will always be a good base to help us ... There is not particularly order in each category, I don’t like it.

I feel like I'm a little more open musically, considering the among of records I enjoyed this year in tons of music genres. I found a little bit of love for surf rock, then a more assumed return to metal. But, again, it's so difficult to establish a top… :(

There is also a big alternative list, that of all the other records that I have discovered and loved, at different levels, this year. There's records I planned to review, but haven't done anything yet ... And hey, I decided that the MUSIC OVERLOAD / EMOTIONS OVERFLOW # 3 that I haven't finish to write is now out in the form of this 2016 top, because there's still a freaking lot of records to discover in this one. What I have prepared so far in terms of writings will be in the #4, because it's better to explain with love why we listen to a record. :)

MUSIC OVERLOAD / EMOTIONS OVERFLOW #2

RESPIRE - S/T

You think the post-black metal is spinning in circles lately? You have the same opinion for the screamo? I think you'll love this record. Respire offers with its self-titled an intense mix, compact and smartly dosed between these two musical worlds, and they also decided to see even beyond that, by integrating... Notes from trumpet. Yep, it's (finally?) possible. I was extremely afraid of the outcome before I decided to listen to this record, interesting on paper but not easy to achieve without this sounds like too random, or something that should make us say "OK, it's American Football with yellings and blast beats". And the charm has operated after a few listens. Imagine the last album of Foxing, Dealer, that would be freely influenced by screamo, and you will get the surprising result of this successfully, surprising and addictive LP. These trumpets are that little extra that multiplies the impact force of these parts as touching as virulent. An album you shouldn't miss if you like small musical challenges.

4 WAY SPLIT - 5000, RÛTH, ILILL, ISTILAH

We know since a long time that Japan is a promised land in terms of screamo, but most of these bands are very discreet (or suffer from the local internets not so sophisticated as it sounds in Europe). This split, which doesn't break the tradition (pretty nonexistent communication outside the post of Idioteq.com, and bands at the top), it's a little summary of what is the Japanese screamo scene in 2016: the more violent to the more melodic  delicate atmospheres and dissonant chaos. 5000 opens the ball with his uncompromising emoviolence, but always highly melodic and melancholy, though "Melody Good Speed" is more chaotic, a bit like Louise Cyphre. Rûth follows with a moody tone recalling the waterfalls riffs / rhythms of the first Envy, heat and fragility of Suis La Lune, all with a song quite influenced by the French scene, Daïtro at first. Ilill offers us a sound more focused on post-hardcore roots, with a contained rage, but a palpable tension expertly distilled lengthwise, sweetness, melody, that reach the climax with "ai". And Istilah concludes the disc with two screamo songs altogether traditional, but effective, that will remind Raein, among others, in this burst of furious and saturated melodies. On this split, there's something for everyone, for all shades of anger and sadness. A fine example of Japanese underground, which proves once again that many things appear to go wrong, in this that we idealize through its pop culture.

CAPELIGHT - S/T

These boys could have been included without any problem on the compilation I mentioned just before. Capelight is a great screamo band that offers a pretty challenging music to play and listen. Many melodies, but few breaths. The whole thing sounds pretty raw, and a bit like "euro screamo" as american skramz people say. It's very promising, and we take great pleasure to listen to these three songs. I look forward to discovering the next releases of this band. Japan is definitely the promised land of screamo. But not only...

NARCIA - S/T

Yes, again and again Japan, but this time to talk about an unexpected discovery of an autumn night. Albert from Form und Leere shared this EP on an english facebook group about screamo, and other friends have also shared this the same night: Here's Narcia, a Japanese band completed by Noah Sebek, an American, which according to the description of the bandcamp page of the boys, landed in Japan to meet Shun, who played in the excellent math-rock / post rock band Origami JP (their song "Japan" is 100% wonderful), and that Noah like very much. He returned to the US for his studies... Fortunately, a priori, there's no split :) ! And they decided to upload the 5 songs they have composed during their three-months existence. Throughout this EP, with a 100% DIY recording in a room, we navigate between sweetness, heat, and some math-rock or screamo ideas. A little touch of American Football here, a Totorro thing there, with a hint of Empire Empire (I Was A Lonely Estate), all gathered on the great song "Path", an acoustic final named "Lighthouse" which concludes the album on an even more tender note... Wow, it's sweet, greatly sincere, and I'm already a fan. Thank you to them and thank you Albert!

ABRE LOS OJOS - DEMO

Salis, meurtris."

It seems to happen quite a lot this year in the French scene, and that's cool. Abre Los Ojos ("open your eyes") comes from Bourg-en-Bresse, and has in its ranks Denis, drummer of Tobaïas and Nicolas at singing, the man behind the small label Suck & Cut. And the thing is, with them, we're not only dealing with screamo... If we rely on the band's biography on their Facebook page, their influences range from Birds In Row and Orchid, to Ekkaia... and Gojira. I like the idea, but I was curious about how a very technical metal stuff could be mixed with very spontaneous and raw skramz. I'm unable to grasp where this precise influence can be in their sound, I mostly hear crust punk, small hardcore jolts, with a french screamo touch... A good demo that the pleb of french metal scene will not like, but it shows a desire to stand out, fed by an energy and a desire each tenacious, like the general tone: short but concise, rough-hewn, vitriolic, virulent and necessarily sad. Congratulations gentlemen, looking forward to hear more! "Jeunesse sans vie, jeunesse meurtrie, perdu d'avance, depuis l'enfance. Jeunesse sous-vide, jeunesse avide, vivant d'abstrait. Salis, meurtris."

SCARED OF EVERYTHING - 2016

Oh mon dieu, quel bon souvenir du Miss The Stars Fest II.

Oh my God, what a good memory of Miss The Stars Fest II. These boys just gave me a big slap: Scared Of Everything, the skramz as it was lived 10-15 years ago in american cellars, on a razor blade, yelled in unison, bodies moving until moral and physical exhaustion. On their new EP simply titled 2016, I found the same energy and the will to live and to overcome, that I found by seeing them play in Berlin. A cathartic screamo, but also combative and moshable with those small hardcore shots. It's short but concise, and we know where we are going: straight into the wall, to destroy it better. Regardless if anxiety ate us, we can also ate her on the way. This is the message of this record. Let this life, this fight, be a fucking party.

SORDIDE - La France a peur

Ladies and gentlemen, here's the record that sums up at best France in 2016. It also came out before the attacks of 2014 to 2016 that shook our country and made him even more stupid than before, yet he perspire as much as fanatics of french far-right politics at the sight of a person with colored skin. This group bears its name well: the first album of Sordide is dirty, anxious, squeaky, muddy, violent, extreme. Everything that evokes the mere mention of our country. Remember that song of Amanda Woodward who said that happiness in France is fireworks. Well, this album is an essential reminder of this. Except here, the fire is not artificial, and consists in feeding the hatred against the flags, your fears, your joys, your filthy ideals. Hey you, the kid who swears by Peste Noire or Sale Freux, take the fuck off your nationalists symbols, stop listening to these bands, forget this geo-politico-musical pseudo-elitism, and please listen to the true rural and disillusioned BM, who shits on order and the uniform. Musical elitism bonus (because this is unfortunately an essential virtue to please the French black metal audience), we can hear on this record clear influences of punk, post-metal, and even noise, all expertly distilled in this stuffy set. Even more spontaneity, nihilism and vitriol in your face, nice isn't it? And beyond this catharsis, a frightening text because of his truth and the actuality in parallel, the title track "La France A Peur" : « Un doux enfant au regard profond, assassiné, étranglé ou étouffé par le monstre. »  You see, we can be lucid, raw, harsh and violent without being racist and empty of good sense. Fuck the sons of rancid, fuck fascists, fire at will to your flags.

DEPARTURES - Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love

The English melodic hardcore scene had hitherto tended to annoy me a bit, I found this scene too theatrical and oh-so-dramatic, I admit. But there are some bands that managed to stand out of the scene (Grappler at first place forever), and Departures are a part of it, especially with his new album. Death Touches Us, From The Moment We Begin To Love is a beautiful concentrate of nostalgia, melancholy, supported by a constantly melodic music, never violent. This is just some desperate love songs and confessions about anxiety and time, then it's still a powerful hardcore record, with an impeccable and careful composition and production. What really makes the difference is surely that the band chose to get rid of everything superfluous that stayed clinging to their sound universe: farewell to the violent breaks, the moshs parts, it remains only the bare necessities for the feels, to nod, to look at the horizon of the ocean (tested and approved), and to reflect on his life. A beautiful, poignant and sincere album that deserves your attention.

FOX WOUND - In Passing, You Too Faded

« I believe in myself, and I'm comfortable for once », pouvons-nous aussi entendre sur ce final épique complètement plagié sur Deafheaven.

On Facebook pages dedicated to the sharing of emo / screamo music, we have to often face to the best and the worst. Regarding this band, this is clearly one of the very best of all that fell under my radar this year. A wonderful surprise I didn't expected anymore in the emo / indie register... I have the pleasure and the opportunity to introduce you Fox Wound, a band from Atlanta, Georgia. The boys just released In Passing, You Too Faded, a superb compendium of fragility, sincerity, and musical experiments. The simple and stripped emo / indie meets ethereal and hypnotic roars of This Will Destroy You, and some shoegaze scents. It reminds me a little of what Knola did with To The Rhythm, with a more post-rockish feeling. After traveling with these tracks filled with sound contrasts, strong emotions and worked mustaches, this disc ends with an even more surprising song at first listen that the entire LP itself, but then grandiose : "Colour Me Gray", which expresses a common emotional balance in our minds, the fact of feeling more or less good by itself, to see the colors around you lose their intensity, but ultimately try to never leave us mope. "I believe in myself, and I'm comfortable for once", we also hear on this epic outro, completely plagiarized on Deafheaven. A refreshing, unique album, and for me one of the best discoveries of 2016, undoubtely. Really, hese words are really inadequate to describe how wonderful In Passing, You Too Faded is...

At all those who make fun of people who still listen to Guerilla Poubelle in 2016, I'll say it to you and I'll reiterate every damn time: you are in denial. But I will not force you to love existentialist punk rock, so here's to you the new 7'' of the hardcore / fastcore side-project of Till, with fanny.dx on vocals and Priscillien at bass : Mon Autre Groupe. OK, these ladies and gentlemen have not trodden on their band name, but who cares, the content smashes from the beginning of the band. With Décadence, we still dealing with a trio who wants to fight the stigmats, with society in general, masculinism... Words that still necessary to scream as loud as possible (and Fanny is doing it super well), served by a virulent, violent, uncompromising hardcore. No time to fool around. If you like the groups that sounds like Punch, I truly think it may please you. "TOUT VA BIEN, LE PIRE RESTE A VENIR."

COLD HEART DAYS - Demo 2015

I'll be honest with you: at first, I had trouble with this band, I was a bit bored, I think I really wasn't in the mood to listen to this "simple" kind of punk (like without blast beats and guitar effects raining everywhere). But with re-plays going on, reading the lyrics, and being a little better grasped by the atmosphere, the context of the songs, I discovered them in a different light, and then I was captivated by this demo. Cold Heart Days is the new flavor of Caen, France emo punk scene (well, new, not that much : it was released last year already...), influenced by Hot Water Music or the Get Up Kids, composed by former members of Amanda Woodward and Situations. We are thus facing an interesting contrast between intimate texts and broken-heart songs, also returning to universal themes (time, grief, being drunk...) and fire-at-will stuff against authority, and our crappy societies. Richness of the purpose, sing-along and pavers thrown at the air, well this is very pleasant. I have a BIG regret for having missed them during their last gig to Paris (at the time I write this review) with Traverse, hoping to correct it quickly. And yo, buy their cassette, the item itself is beautiful.

MODERN COLOR - CHROMESTESIA

The intention of this record is a bit curious, but great, relevant and pretentious at the same time, like "yo guys, what if we play almost all things that people like to hear in the hardcore scene today, and on the same damn record?" This is what we can deduce by listening to Chromestesia, the debut album of the californian band Modern Color that attracted my attention from the first listen and instantly sharpened all my senses. Specifically, imagine a mash-up between Counterparts, State Faults, Turnstile and Nothing, and you get this record that has the potential to be a gem, but which sometimes runs out of breath in his mad race for energy, fun and catharsis, and sounds a bit too tote. But it still great to savor for those moments when you don't know if you want to be an old-school hardcore kid or a modern one and you're like "fuck it, let's daaaance !".

FIRE AT WILL - Life Goes On

I've put a crazy time to talk about this album, and it's a shame, because Jojo Krod Records has understand my tastes super well by offering me the opportunity to listen to this record. Because under its well-known melodic hardcore aspects and behind the artwork that doesn't inspire me that much to be honest (I'm not as geeky as some punxs are in France...) but in coherence with previous artworks, we take a real pleasure to get carried away with this record that seems to be somewhere between Comeback Kid, Lifetime and 90's emo records à-la-Saves the Day. It's also powerful and sensitive than brawler, we take beautiful climbs of adrenaline in the face, as well as moments of sing-along. Personally, the first time I listened to this record, it was for breakfast, and I wanted to destroy my kitchen, and then clean it with love. That's the spirit of Life Goes On: the inner rage that explodes, but never to distill any negativity, much like Have Heart. On a similar vibe, their french colleagues of Hightower offers gymnastics moments, but Fire At Will especially proposes to scream until we burn our lungs, one hand on the heart, and the other on the coffee mug (OK, just avoid to have this mug during a gig). If you love your hardcore warm but not cutesy, this record should please you.

Je me suis moi-même beaucoup exprimé.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION :

Hey y'all. It's a while since I haven't posted something here. I still haven't posted the MUSIC OVERLOAD / EMOTIONS OVERFLOW #2, but I haven't forgot it, I swear. And there was a reason to this silence. Since early June, I prepared in secret a compilation, about french punk / hardcore. But I wanted more to just talk about noise. I wanted to talk about what was going on, in France, Maybe you've heard about all the police / terrorist violence we have endured all year long, until now. Maybe you've heard about the abuse of authorities, the complete ignorance of the people in the streets. Maybe you've heard all these stories about racism, hatred, discrimination, about muslims, migrants, young people...

We all think we can't let this be a thing anymore. It's time to react.

There's tons of kids, adults, old people, that still tread the pavement against all the abuses, against the injustice, the lies, the oppression, the laws imposed to us without asking our opinion. I wanted to be a part of it. Then I had the idea to put online this compilation, named "Le monde ou rien" (in english : the world of nothing). 42 bands, with different messages, but same passion, anger and strength. All these poeple have the same desire to change everything in our societies, in their lives. Also, some bands have participated to a .pdf where you can find manifestos, poems, intimate textes about our very selves, about things around us... But it's all french, sorry people. :(

Hope you'll like all these songs like I do, hope you'll love the sound, the lyrics. There's brand new songs from Potence, Sugartown Cabaret, Fake Off, Barque, Guerilla Poubelle, and an unreleased song from Alta Marea, the first and last screamo song of the math-rock band, specially re-recorded for the compilation. I'm so very proud of this. I made it for you, for us.

THE WORLD OR NOTHING.

Emo goes folk, let's go.

NICOLAS QUIRIN - Lullabies For My Ghost

"Let’s send to the moon your prayer for the whole world, for the time that runs out before we fall asleep. For now I just wonder where the dead go, teach me how to have fun, teach me..." - "Rooftops And Bottle Bottoms".

"She’s thinking about pointless things like shoes and Ice-Cream, and how to hide her cigarette pack if her mother arrives.".

YETI - Amidst

THROW ME OFF THE BRIDGE - April Showers

"The roof is crushing my bones. Stones, breaking windows. Will the sun enter my home? Or will I just leave it all? Can I just live after all?"

"There ain't no wrong decision, there ain't no right answer. Stick to your own opinion and wait a little bit longer. Ask yourself the right question, at least give it a try. We're like every normal person, frustrated, unsatisfied."

Merci Quentin.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION :

Everything disgusts me currently, the world is becoming darker with each passing hour. Nothing stops the fall, not even revolt. So in these dark days, I just looking for an escape. And it seems to me that these gentlemen have helped me. Friends of the internet, of the parisian punk scene, who gave me 3 different kind of escapism, 3 different visions of folk. Whether mechanical, melancholic, or dark, it has always been cathartic and beneficial. And the funny thing is that they all come from the hardcore punk scene. Their ideals and passions remain as brilliant, but they expose their experience, their rage, with wisdom and gentleness. And that gives records with a strong emotional power like in a screamo records, sublime escapements where we all recognize ourselves a little, pains and dreams told with great sensibility, perhaps a little more than folk artists with a more "classic" musical background... Emo goes folk, let's go.

NICOLAS QUIRIN - Lullabies For My Ghost

I discovered this gentleman in a high quality folk concert in Paris: he played that night with Cavan Moran, Miles Oliver and Odds & Ends. He truly touched me with the delicacy of his voice, coupled with the moments of life that he sang us, through its intimate and melancholic music. But he hadn't released anything yet at this moment, if I'm not mistaken. Two years have passed since, and Nicolas Quirin released his first album, Lullabies For My Ghost, in September 2015 at La Face Cachée. He and I, we share the passion for 2003-2006 era french screamo, and through our passionates discussions he made me jealous by saying he have a significant amount of records of that great time, but he has consoled me by offering to send me a copy of his album. In this sweet afternoon of a late June 2016 that offering us some sunshine amid all this ambient darkness, I've played the LP on my turntable. And what a pleasant feeling of, firstly, diving back into my memories of this warm moment for many reasons that was this parisian evening of January 2014... And then other memories as sweet as bleak. Yes, these are contrasting memories that Nicolas has reminded me through his stories, a record with a hazy atmosphere, but never tempestuous. Think of the cool breeze of a summer night where we wander outside, with no other purpose than to wander in our thoughts.

Lullabies For My Ghost invites us to travel in a universe filled with tenderness, nostalgia, full of simplicity. The landscape is well established and represented by the dark artwork but with a childlike content and design. By listening to these 8 tracks, I found once again what made me hold on to the music of Nicolas 2 years ago: sweetness is always the main theme of his world, however full of sensitivity. Songs mostly inspired by love, the disorder of soul, moments of weakness and carelessness that we all lived. And I thank him for that, because it's all that the world and our hearts needs now: emotion, imagination, love. "Let’s send to the moon your prayer for the whole world, for the time that runs out before we fall asleep. For now I just wonder where the dead go, teach me how to have fun, teach me..." - "Rooftops And Bottle Bottoms". Inevitably, it's hard not to give up to the temptation of the dark thoughts when we confess, when we open our heart.

Above, I've mentioned the fact that Nicolas loves screamo. Ladies and gentlemen, a totally calculated coincidence, HERE'S THE PUNX POINT: Plume Cordier, a.k.a Mohawk, a.k.a the singer of the excellent and funny french crust/hardcore band Direwolves, offer us some beautiful melodies on "Songs about Laura, Part 2". But tell me Nicolas, why did you do that? Why you had to write about a woman named Laura ... Because obviously, I found situations that I lived with a girl named Laura, too. "She’s thinking about pointless things like shoes and Ice-Cream, and how to hide her cigarette pack if her mother arrives.". You reminded me that nearly 4 years after, it remains hard to forget some stories, some details. These souvenirs that can even inspire you throughout life, in your mistakes and your successes. That's why that record like yours exist, and that they make us feel good, right?

By dint of letting go, it seems that we reached too fast to the end of this album when it reaches the last moment of poignant confessions that is "Siberia", one last piece of living, abstraction, accompanied by a piano just as delicate and melancholic than the rest. And everything ends on a final note: those raindrops that seem to fall on a window, then silence. A final reminder of the general sentiment that animates this record, of what I like to hear and see for allowing to time and sorrow to be more pleasing to watch pass.

You can listen to 4 songs just below, others are available on Deezer.

YETI - Amidst

My very first post-rock concert was on December 17, 2012, with Totorro, Jean Jean, Man Is Not A Bird and Hier. As a Christmas gift, I discovered that night all the best of french math / post-rock folklore (but this was before MINAB goes shoegaze). Hier opened this evening, and I remember that this band has completely pierced my heart and made me cry inside. It was beautiful, the voice and the singing of frontman have upset me, I became almost instantly a fan of this ultra-intimate and kinda jazzy interpretation of post-metal. After he saw my praises about this show, Vincent, frontman of the group, came to me. He also played in a band equally unusual and fantastic, named Syrtis Major, quite similar to Hier's work but I never had the chance to see them live. Meanwhile, he presented his new project, Yeti, created with his friend Julien (the great master of machines and percussions), initially located somewhere between folk and lo-fi, and I've found his instagram account of which I am completely fan, as it reflects at best their routine, their music, their mind, and my own routine. The suburbs, pictures of boring places that evokes us the specific feeling you can have at the exact moment where you walk at this kind of places, the rain, the warm colors of the rising sun, the gray of Paris, nostalgia, Japan (hey, he have a Super NES and loves Envy!)... and that's exactly what they say through Yeti.

With Amidst, we're dealing with a very complex music, difficult to grasp. A mix between a folk full of humanity and sensitivity, and electronic influences, almost industrial, much colder and heavy. Once, A guy told me that the singing of Vincent (and its projects in themselves) was close to Keeley Davis, frontman of Engine Down. Well yes, that's about it: imagine a side project of Keeley mainly influenced by the urban thing, while retaining the fragility and delicacy of his voice, and you get this album that let me doubtful at first listen, different in many ways from previous projects of the parisian dude, but it finally sparked my attention... And it's so interesting to listen to, if not downright exploring, that I had to talk about this record in every detail...

These troubled soundscapes appear opaque at first listen, it's difficult to find consistency between the warmth of folk guitars and voices, and the coldness of machines. But the more we advance in the record, the more his soul is revealed, and the whole blends perfectly. We have to see the influences of Wovenhand and Swans I guess, in these sharp sound experiments, arid but touching, constantly expanding, playing with the nerves of the listener. This record opens with "Phos," essentially a drone track, a hypnotic sound movement, dark, saturated, which evokes the gray, boredom, obscure but with something melodic that resonates on the background, as the illustration of a hot colour that has turned pale, like a spark in a kind of suffocation. This is actually an introduction to "Buildings", where we're immediately transported, dazzled by the extreme sensitivity of the Vincent's voice, in the guitar playing, both fed with profound melancholy. A comforting softness, that resonates like a nursery rhyme, where nevertheless a thunderstorm rumbles: you know her well, this heaviness characteristic of a summer thunder, this hot moisture smell? It's these elements that we find in this heaviness that retranscribes these saturated drones that transcend these sweet melodies, all repeating themselves on and on, while the track flows. Totally addictive.

The record continues with "Amy", mainly based on electronic sounds, which is more a demonstration of the rift between the industrial and routine, and the lightness and carelessness. Mechanical and cold beats, a robotic sample, between glockenspiel notes and guitar loops. Two totally different worlds, which merge and imposes themselves to each other. A captivating duality and always mesmerizing. This song can perfectly be in the OST of a psychological anime, in an episode of Death Note...

Striking contrasts can also be found in "The Path", but in a different register: it begins with a more quiet instrumentation, and suddenly much heavier and saturated guitars that becomes slowly a new rough drone, a loud buzz, as the distant storm, accompanied by a slight electro loop. But the music of Yeti can also be completely bare, devoid of any artifices, evidenced by "Fall Is At Dawn", a song in the original lo-fi spirit of the dudes, or "Monowl", a simple guitar/voice duo which beautifully concludes the album. And because it wasn't enough, the student of Wovenhand have made a cover of "Singing Grass" as a hidden track, always with this shivering momentum of delicacy.

I deliberately choose not to tell you more about this record because it's really worth to be discovered and explored by yourself. It's an album full of mystery, of singularity, complexity and fragility, making the routine way more beautiful, which cleverly illustrates a broad panel of emotions, influences, ideas. A priori, the next album of Yeti should clearly be in the style of "The Path". So Amidst will be a very unique record, the light of a specific time, a little gem that only some lost souls will find, somewhere on the internet, or obscure distros, or at Yeti gigs.

You can also listen to Amidst on Deezer, and don't hesitate a second to buy the CD with its mysterious and beautiful artwork and booklet.

THROW ME OFF THE BRIDGE - April Showers

After releasing a sublime LP, Blindforded Traveler, the multi-instrumentalist guy from Laval, Quentin Sauvé, officiating in the golden triangle of Laval hardcore game (Birds In Row, As We Draw, Calvaiire), returns throught his side-project Throw Me Off The Bridge (which is now a full band, if I'm not mistaken) with a new EP, April Showers, where he changed a bit the recipe of the project, maintaining the balance between indie folk and cathartic intensity of post-hardcore, but leaving a little more room to electricity, I'm thinking of these thick and buzzing keyboards, the harsh and rough side of electric guitars without too much blackening the atmosphere of the record: we always find much purity, despite the general momentum rather melancholic, which reflected the lyrical tone always personal and anxious. "The roof is crushing my bones. Stones, breaking windows. Will the sun enter my home? Or will I just leave it all? Can I just live after all?"

But Quentin also knows how to give some courage since the album, and fortunately it hasn't changed. Thus, "Weak Spot" gives us self-esteem, encourages us to believe in ourselves, in the same instrumental contrast between mist and sun.  "There ain't no wrong decision, there ain't no right answer. Stick to your own opinion and wait a little bit longer. Ask yourself the right question, at least give it a try. We're like every normal person, frustrated, unsatisfied."

Again, Quentin offers us a strong record, more rough, but never oppressive. I really can't wait to see it on stage once again, because his music is even more beautiful and intense live. Thank you man!
