Coucou ! Alors je me lance.
Hey! It has been a super long time since I last wrote an article spontaneously, which I did a lot since... two years ago? Let's say that I finally am free enough mentally to do so. Well let's do that. My girlfriend tolerates my screaming and noisy music when she is by my side, I am lucky haha ! In any case, I can't walk for a few days, I hurt my foot, so I might as well get busy. To sign my BIG come back in blogging, I am suggesting you a small playlist including last day's crushes of mine, more or less connected to emo and screamo.
CROWNING - Survival/Sickness
When seeing a slash in a screamo album title, you usually except something cool. It is inherently true with this style, and not only the fact that you are going to listen to some hipster song. I discovered CROWNING with their first EP Funeral Designs, and it was already a huge slap, in between screamo and metalcore. Survival/Sickness offers us the same balance, without falling in a mosh or easy music, it is technical, strong and memorable at the same time. It is brief, breathless and it makes me dive again in that short but very intense moment that was their parisian date. It came out at Zegema Beach Records which recommends you that record if you like CARRION SPRING or LEVELESS, and I am also strongly recommending it.
NAEDR - Past Is Prologue
In Singapore, there is a really high-quality screamo scene, with big names like, FLOWERSxOFxCARNAGE, BETHARI and PARIS IN THE MAKING. NAEDR are the "newcomers" on the scene, not so newcomers since this band contains members of PITM and BETHARI, and it has been added to this great list, releasing a few days ago the excellent new album Past Is Prologue. Concretely, if you miss ENVY's All The Footprints [...] period and you are one of those lucky few who know the Korean band 49 MORPHINES, you will simply love this record, without a doubt. Go for it, it's powerful, its production is awesome and really highlights each element of their musical universe where there is a lot going on without being chaotic.

I was really afraid of this record, after Stage Four which was superb and poignant in terms of lyrics and their story, but which bored me musically, I didn't liked it me as much as the others... Lament reassured me and really warmed my heart, this album made the perfect link between what has been the lifeblood of TOUCHÉ AMORÉ from the beginning, and other influences that they put forward, thus creating a unique atmosphere around their music, tinged with post-punk and even americana. The record was produced by the legendary producer Ross Robinson (which produced bands like AT THE DRIVE-IN, GLASSJAW, KORN, THE CURE...), and it clearly shows in the band's production and performance. This record is full of energy, it's brilliant, and it's containing a few hits made for sing-along, that I can't wait to experiment live when the concerts will happen again, as "Reminders" or "Lament", thus adding to the list of other hits written by the band and that they never stopped to play. The lyrics are much less about mourning, and they deal with a little more universal subjects. There's a shivering feature of the singer of MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA on "Limelight", a huge late ENVY vibe of the opening track "Come Heroine"... It's actually a surprising record that you will really discover after several listens, which may seem dark at times but which I find filled with strength, courage, and brightness (at least just for "Reminders"...). A great album, really. TA forever.

SEAHAVEN - Halo Of Hurt
The last time SEAHAVEN released an album, the "Tumblrcore" scene wasn't completely dead yet and it was in March 2014 with the ethereal Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only, where the band developed their music then strongly inspired by BRAND NEW by sublimating it with delicacy and class, sometimes flirting with dream pop. To everyone's surprise and in a world where Tik-Tok dominates the social media's trends and where emos became e-girls/boys, SEAHAVEN returns this year with Halo Of Hurt, a much darker record than the previous one, almost returning to the mood of their very first EP Ghost, while keeping the common thread woven on Reverie Lagoon [...]. Being a huge fan of the latter, I was a little disappointed at the first listen because it was much more linear in the songwriting, but Halo Of Hurt is in fact a grower, which will also make some people think of the last 2 CITIZEN albums, where the group subtly develops this dark but never heavy atmosphere, supported by a few keyboards.

AS IN EVERYDAY - Such An Awful Waste
I looove surprises that come out of nowhere. It wasn't me who found this one in the abyss of the Internets but Miss The Stars blog, which I cannot thank enough for helping me to keep my emo / screamo playlist up to date... AS IN EVERYDAY is a solo project from New York, which after 2 small and somewhat messy releases, released a very nice album this year, named Such An Awful Waste. It sounds like a record that could have been released at the end of the 90's, it's super soft and delicate, but some screamed parts contrasts with the whole without breaking the mood, it's pure emo, which will please fans of FOOTBALL ETC or THE WORLD IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE AND I AM NO LONGER AFRAID TO DIE, and any emokid who would feel bad about themselves in these apocalyptic times.

SOMERSET THROWER - Paint My Memory
I discovered this band with Godspeed, released in 2018, and I loved it a lot, except that everyone around me didn't give a fuck about it. This newcomer, released on Triple B Records (one of the best hardcore labels in my opinion), is on the same line, very JAWBREAKER-ish in the vocals, the guitar sound and the melodies, I managed to convince some acquaintances who were teenagers when JAWBREAKER released records to listen to SOMERSET THROWER, and unsurprisingly they loved it! It's far from being original or something never heard before, but it's good for the ears and the heart. The riffs are sharp and melodious as it should be, they even started to scream on a track, it's more or less the equivalent of a dad-rock album in emo form, I guess.
