SHIZUNE / LYTIC 7" SPLIT

Alors là, si on s'y attendait à celle-là : un split surprise entre un des meilleurs, sinon LE meilleur groupe de screamo italien actuellement, SHIZUNE, et LYTIC, le nouveau groupe de screamo de Jamie Behar... Oui oui, le guitariste de SAETIA et OFF MINOR (où il chantait également). Alors pour la petite histoire, il n'a jamais cessé de faire de la musique après sa carrière dans le skramz game, mais cette personne a évolué d'une manière qui peu paraître bizarre certes, mais qui est très commune à ce qu'on retrouve chez les ancien-ne-s du screamo en (F)rance par exemple, qu'il connaît bien pour certains ;) : il est parti jouer dans divers groupes de hardcore et de oi, le dernier en date étant GUNS DON'T RUN, un groupe de pur oi/street punk de hooligan qui fait l'éloge de l'équipe d'Arsenal, un hymne au foot et à la bière... Rassurez-vous, il s'agit de supporters de type "Red Star" plutôt que de fafs ! Je préfère éclaircir, car y'a encore beaucoup de clichés sur le monde du foot, de la oi, et des gens qui n'y ont rien à faire... Bon, je bois pas mais je dois admettre que c'est relativement efficace et que ça fait le taff, et je pense que les fans du genre apprécieront pas mal. Ah ouais, et Jamie écoute tout les meilleurs groupes de punk hardcore de Paris et de Brest !

Mais il n'a pas oublié ses racines, loin de là, et a décidé de refaire du screamo avec LYTIC. C'est un mélange entre un screamo bien ancré dans ce qui se faisait à la fin des années 90, avec des influences math-rock et de légers accents grind, comme si c'était pour reprendre là ou OFF MINOR avait arrêté. LYTIC, sonne raw, c'est assez technique même, mais ça reste relativement mélodique... De quoi contraster sans trop choquer avec SHIZUNE, sur ce split, qui proposent quand à eux 2 titres absolument géniaux, peut-être parmi leurs tout meilleurs. A chaque fois qu'ils sortent des trucs, ils vont toujours un peu plus loin dans la qualité ! LYTIC existe depuis Novembre 2015 mais ont sorti leur premier jet, onesidedlp, en Décembre dernier, et ça posait plutôt bien les bases. Le premier morceau de cet EP, "Bleak", on dirait presque une version screamo de RITES OF SPRING !

Dès le premier morceau de SHIZUNE, "greg è a roppongi con john macAfee", on est catapulté vers le meilleur de RAEIN, vers tout ce qu'on adore d'eux et de SHIZUNE de toute façon, leur touche un peu plus agressive et saccadée que RAEIN depuis leur évolution plus "indie", ça sonne lumineux, puissant. Et alors le deuxième morceau, "occhiaie metafisich", bah c'est tout simplement mon morceau préféré des italiens désormais, voilà. 3 minutes de bonheur, une grosse leçon de skramz, l'art de jongler avec la mélodie, la chaleur, et les furieuses frappes de batterie, la violence rythmique. Et cette outro avec sa guitare délicieusement 90's jouant tranquillement... Ça me rappelle MARCOVALDO, et ça c'est un très très bon point héhé !

Le premier morceau de LYTIC, "Greener Grass" m'a surpris : il s'ouvre avec une note de synthé, et il comporte une section de chant clair. Sinon, on est toujours dans un screamo assez cru, avec quand même une grosse attention portée sur l'ambiance du morceau, grâce notamment à ce synthé, qui finit par prendre le dessus sur le morceau lorsque les voix disparaissent. Le deuxième morceau, "All Bleeding Stop Eventually", c'est 20 secondes de gros screamo/grind furieux mais jamais bas du front, et le reste du gros sing-along et un riff tout doux. C'est frustrant, ça sera cool que ça reparte un peu en blast derrière, ne serait-ce que pour 15 secondes haha ! Et le morceau final, "Lugenpresse", commence avec un riff mathy, un chant parlé très grave (genre vraiment, on dirait un chanteur de goth haha !), et commence à s'envoler vers 1:40, avec toujours ces sections de chant clair hyper agréables et qui appellent au sing-along. Et l'apothéose à 2:30 quand le morceau craque en une cavalcade de guitares et de batteries et se termine avec des guitares un peu plus lourdes et groovy, c'est oui ! Ça rappelle un peu le morceau "Screens" de onesidedlp. Le meilleur morceau de LYTIC jusqu'à présent, il est là !

Ce disque va très certainement faire partie de mes splits screamo favoris de cette année... C'est pré-commandable dès maintenant chez Zegema Beach Records (Canada/U.S.A) et Moment Of Collapse (Europe), téléchargeable dès maintenant aussi sur les bandcamp des groupes et des labels, et les disques seront envoyés entre Mars et Avril...

Does anyone could be ready enough for this? I'm not sure: a surprise split record between one of the best, if not THE best Italian screamo bands of the last 5 years : SHIZUNE, and LYTIC, the new screamo band of Jamie Behar... Yes yes, the guitarist from SAETIA and OFF MINOR (where he also did vocals). Long story short, he never stopped making music after his career in the skramz game, but this person has evolved in a way that may seems weird for some of y'all, but this is actually pretty common to see, at least for some former screamo musicians in France tha Jamie knows well ;) : he went to play in various hardcore and oi bands, the latest being GUNS DON'T RUN, a strictly oi / street punk band who praises Arsenal football team, a hymn to football and beer... Well, I don't drink alcohol but I must admit that it's relatively effective and that it works well, and I think fans of the genre will appreciate it quite a lot. Oh yeah, and Jamie listens to all the best hardcore punk bands in Paris and Brest!

But he didn't forget his roots, far from it, and decided to play screamo again with LYTIC. It's a mix between a screamo well anchored in what was done at the end of the 90s, with math-rock influences and slight grind accents, as if it was a straight follow-up to OFF MINOR. LYTIC sounds raw, it's quite technical, but it still pretty melodic... What to fit well with SHIZUNE on this split, which offers 2 absolutely great songs, perhaps among their best. Whenever they release stuff, they always go a little further in quality! To finish with LYTIC, they exist since November 2015 but have released their first record, onesidedlp, last December, and it a was pretty solid debut. The first track of this EP, "Bleak", almost sounds like a screamo version of RITES OF SPRING!

With the first song of SHIZUNE, "we've got a roppongi con john macAfee", we're catapulted to the best of RAEIN, to everything we love about them and SHIZUNE anyway, their little more aggressive and jerky take on RAEIN sound since they turned more "indie", it sounds bright, powerful. And then the second song, "occhiaie metafisich", is just my favorite piece of the band now, no shit. 3 minutes of epicness, a big skramz lesson, the art of juggling the melody, the heat, and a furious drumming, that rhythmic violence. And this outro with his deliciously 90's guitar playing quietly... It reminds me of MARCOVALDO, and this is a very very good point!

The first song of LYTIC, "Greener Grass" surprised me: it opens with a synth note, and it includes some clear vocals. Otherwise, we're still in a pretty raw screamo, with a lot of attention paid to the mood of the song, thanks to this particular synth, which eventually take over the piece when the voices disappear. The second song, "All Bleeding Stop Eventually", is 20 seconds of big and furious screamo / grind, intense but never too dark, and the rest of the song is just a big sing-along and a sweet riff. It's frustrating, it would be cool for the song to go a little further with blast beats, only for 15 seconds haha! And the final piece, "Lugenpresse", starts with a mathy riff, a very low-pitched spoken song (like, really, it sounds like it's done by a goth haha ​​singer!), And starts to fly at 1:40, with always those  super nice clear vocals sections. And there's the apotheosis at 2:30 when the song cracks into a cavalcade of guitars and drums and ends with a heavier and groovy riff, it's a yes! It's a bit like the onesidedlp's song "Screens". The best piece of LYTIC so far is here!

This record will certainly be part of my favorite screamo splits this year...
