PASTEL t'en fera voir de toutes les couleurs avec "L'Acchiappanuvole".

Je parle d'en voir de toutes les couleurs, et voilà une photo en noir et blanc... COMPLOT. Mais non, ce n'est pas une musique uniquement sombre et désabusée que vous découvrirez avec PASTEL ! Ce duo nous provient d'Italie, et est actif depuis 2013. Après un split avec Merridew où figure le titre "Laminal", qui m'avait fait comprendre que le groupe avait un quelque chose de plus que les autres groupes n'ont pas, les italiens reviennent cette année avec leur premier album, L'Acchiappanuvole.

Et sur ce LP, les garçons nous délivrent un panel explosif de couleurs musicales. Aussi euphorique que vivace. Au premier titre, "Il Lancio Kàrmàn", on se croirait sur un album de Nine Eleven, avec cette instrumentation punk hardcore énervée et frontale et ce chant dur et vindicatif. Mais le final plus éthéré fait comprendre que le but des italiens est pas de faire du hardcore politique. En effet, tout le long de L'Acchiappanuvole, on navigue quelque part entre post-hardcore, post-punk, post-rock... Un métronome sonore aux riffs généreux et cristallins, croisés avec des saccades et des instants plus "méchants" (je pense notamment à l’enchaînement "I Love You, Tempesta" et "L'Alchimista"), donnant ainsi à l'univers de ce disque toute sa profondeur. Il faut s'imaginer Raein croisant The Tidal Sleep, et parfois Suis La Lune. D'autant plus que jamais ça ne s'essouffle, on ne finit pas par se lasser, car il y a toujours un élément qui nous fait sursauter, qui aiguise notre curiosité, notre sensibilité... Ceci dit, vous aurez peut-être un peu de mal à rester attentif au chant, dont l'intonation n'est pas celle que je préfère. C'est ce qui m'a toujours empêché d'apprécier pleinement le Rêve de Cassandre de 9/11...

Mais justement, ils semblent s'être penchés sur le problème, en proposant une version totalement instrumentale de cet album. Une riche idée, qui fait ainsi apprécier l'album d'une toute autre manière, sans la colère et la tension du chant, mais avec toute la fougue de l'instrumentation ainsi libre de s'exprimer et de nous enivrer. En dehors de ça, il y a de toute manière une piste dénuée de chant sur ce LP, "La Macchina Cantastorie", au ton bien plus lancinant et pesant que le reste du disque, qui fera plaisir aux plus barbus d'entre vous, bien qu'un glockenspiel et quelques notes de piano prennent soin d'attendrir le bout de gras. Quoique il en soit, c'est ici une très grosse démonstration de force que propose PASTEL avec ce premier long-jeu solide, varié et équilibré. On se plaira à divaguer dans leur univers sucré/salé... Ouais, ça se déguste, et c'est justement aussi coloré et contrasté qu'un arlequin.

And on this LP, the boys deliver us an explosive array of musical colors. As euphoric as perennial. On the first track, "It Lancio Karman", it's like a Nine Eleven album, with this frontal and edgy hardcore/punk instrumentation, and the vindicative and rude singing. But the ethereal final made it clear that the purpose of the duo is not to make political hardcore. Indeed, throughout L'Acchiappanuvole, we navigate somewhere between post-hardcore, post-punk, post-rock ... A metronomic sound with generous and crystalline riffs, crossed with jerking and tormented moments (I’m thinking of the duo "I Love You, Tempesta" and "Alchimista"), Thus giving to the universe of this record its depth. You have to imagine Raein crossing roads to The Tidal Sleep, and sometimes Suis La Lune. Especially since it will never ran out of breath, we can't be tired because there is always something that makes us jump, which sharpens our curiosity, our sensitivity... That said, you may have a little trouble to remain attentive to the song, whose intonation is not the one I prefer. This is what has always prevented me from fully appreciate le Rêve de Cassandre of 9/11...

But precisely, they seem to have studied the problem, proposing acompletely instrumental version of the album. A great idea, which allow us to appreciate the album in a totally different manner, without the anger and tension of the singing, but with the enthusiasm of an instrumentation free to express herself and take us away. Apart from that, there are anyway a track devoid of vocals on the LP, "La Macchina Cantastorie", a more throbbing tone and heavier than the rest of the record, which will please to the most bearded of you, while a glockenspiel and a few piano notes carefully soften the end of fat. This is a very large show of force that offers PASTEL with this solid and varied LP. You'll enjoy to wander in their sweet / salty universe... Yeah, this record is savorous, as colorful and contrasting as a harlequin.
